Mattel WWE Superstars

We have a bit of a confession here at Order66ToyStore. The WWE may not be to everyone's liking, but it is one of our guilty pleasures!

Mattel acquired the licence for WWE action figures in January 2010 taking over from Jakks Pacific.

In Autumn 2011 they re-launced their WWE Basic action figure range under the guise of "Superstars" and the line shows no sign of slowing up as they have released images for Superstars #25 through to #30 which should be available in store by the end of the month.

Unlike the Elite collection figures, which feature 26 points of articulation, the Basic collection features on average a mere 14 points of articulation - head, shoulders, elbows, wrists, waist, legs, knees and ankles. Instead of ball-joints, Mattel have opted for hinged joints at the elbow and knees which are ugly. The use of elbow and knee pads hide  these on some wrestlers but those without lose muscle definition as a result.

There have been some absolute gems of figures released in this series to date - personal favourites would have to include Eddie Guerrero, Brodus Clay, Bret "The Hit Man" Hart and Ultimate Warrior.

#25 Rey Mysterio
Rey Mysterio, the master of the 619, has appeared three times in the Superstars line-up thus far. This particular version does however feature a newly tooled head, torso and legs. The tattoos are intricately detailed, the designs on his pants are pretty cool and the re-sculpted torso is much more accurate.

#26 Dolph Ziggler
One of the most prominent heels in the WWE at present, Dolph Ziggler, has not featured in the Basic line for nearly a year so this timely release is much anticipated.

The figure is very similar to the previous incarnation. The head scan is new and features a smug looking Dolph sporting a shorter haircut than before.

This will make the "perfect" additon to Superstar #2 Vickie Guerrero.

#27 Zack Ryder
Woo woo woo... you know it! Pity Mattel don't!

This is going to be the most sought after figure from the wave. The former US Champion has had a meteoric rise to fame in the last six months and as a result we have been inundated with requests for "Long Island Iced Z".

Unfortunately Mattel have failed to deliver. The head scan looks nothing like Zack Ryder and the purple trademark shorts are... er... black and blue instead.

#28 The Miz
The Awesome One, the most must see superstar in the WWE, well according to The Miz.

Another let down, first time the former WWE champion has featured in the Superstars line-up and a step backward for Mattel as the Elite Series 9 features a more realistic head sculpt. And I'm not saying that because The Miz looks a little paler than his usual orange self!

Also, has anyone ever seen The Miz in red attire? Like Zack Ryder, Mattel should stick to trademark attire.

#29 Alex Riley
The first time Alex Riley has appeared on a Basic card (he has appeared in a Battle Pack with former mentor The Miz).

Excellant figure! Sometimes the head scan technology Mattel use works beautifully, sometimes not so, and this is definitely an example of the former. The large cross tattoo on his back also looks great.

Nice to see this on a Basic card. Hopefully Riley can get back to the big shows.

#30 Mark Henry
Former WWE Heavyweight Champion, the World's Strongest Man - Mark Henry is another figure we have had plenty of requests for.

Best figure in the wave! The head scan is outstanding and compared to the other 6" sized figures Mark Henry looks every ounze of his 400lbs.

All figures retail between £9.99 - £11.99.
